"I am deeply honoured to stand before you tonight to accept the Stellenbosch University Social Impact Award in the Individual Category," Dr Bam said. "This recognition is both humbling and inspiring. Social impact is a journey of collective effort, and while I am privileged to receive this award, it is truly a testament to the incredible community of students, colleagues, and partners who work tirelessly to make a difference."

His work at the Social Impact is particularly notable for its focus on bridging gaps between academia and real-world solutions.

By prioritising empathy, resilience, and hope, Dr Bam has been at the forefront of creating an environment where positive change is not just an aspiration but a reality. This is especially highlighted through his and the Social Impact Department’s work with their Small Business Academy nine-month programme.

"Together, we have sought to build bridges, foster understanding, and create meaningful change in the spaces where we live and work. This award not only celebrates what has been achieved but also serves as a call to continue the work of transforming lives and addressing systemic inequalities. It reminds me that our efforts must remain rooted in empathy, resilience, and hope."

The selection panel highlighted Dr Bam's outstanding efforts in creating educational opportunities for underprivileged communities and his dedication to building sustainable, inclusive partnerships. His work embodies Stellenbosch University values; values that recognise the impactful influence of education and the potential for collective action in addressing common systemic challenges.

The award serves as a recognition of Dr Bam's tireless pursuit of social equity, but it also sends a message to the broader academic community about the responsibility of scholars and educators to use their platforms to address societal imbalances. In his speech, Dr Bam reminded the audience that the recognition of past achievements must not overshadow the ongoing work required to bring about lasting change.

Nicole Taute, Manager, Social Impact believes that Dr Bam has consistently demonstrated that the pursuit of knowledge is inseparable from the pursuit of justice and equity. His contributions serve as a model for how higher education can play an instrumental role in addressing pressing social issues.

This award also marks a significant milestone in Dr Bam’s career, reinforcing his reputation as a thought leader in both the academic and social impact spaces.

“It is not always easy for an activist to navigate a university setting and make a meaningful impact,” Taute said. “However, Armand has demonstrated remarkable leadership, creating a space that both the Business School and the University can be proud of. I have had the privilege of learning about his journey, his background, and his family's legacy as activists, which provides profound insight into his passion and dedication.

“Advocacy and community transformation are deeply ingrained in his identity, driving his commitment to creating positive social impact and addressing the needs of underserved communities. He is truly deserving of this award, and I feel honoured to be guided and inspired by such an exceptional activist and leader.”

Dr Bam’s acceptance of the Stellenbosch University Social Impact Award is a moment of pride for Stellenbosch Business School and Stellenbosch University as a whole. His work continues to inspire colleagues, students, and communities, and his vision for a more equitable society remains a beacon of hope for future generations.

"To the selection panel, thank you for affirming the value of this work. To my family and colleagues at Stellenbosch University, thank you for your support. And to everyone committed to social impact, let this evening remind us that our combined actions, no matter how small, have the power to shape a better future."
