Prof Mark Smith

Mark Smith is Director at Stellenbosch Business School (ZA). He was Dean of Faculty (2016-2020) and Professor at Grenoble Ecole de Management. He was previously Director of the Doctoral School in Grenoble and has also worked at Manchester Business School (UK). He has carried out research work for a number of European and National institutions. He remains an active researcher and was previously leader of the Work Life Careers research team in Grenoble. His interests focus on labour market outcomes of individuals and organisations with a particular interest in the role of gender and age. He is a member of the coordinating team for the European Commission’s Network of Experts on Gender Equality (ENEGE), a similar role he undertook for the European Commission’s Expert Group on Gender and Employment (2008-2011). He is also currently working on a large-scale European project on the impact of the crisis on youth www.style-research.eu/. He has authored or co-authored over fifty books, book chapters and journal articles. He publishes regularly in the media about his research and the management of business schools.
