ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Bopelokgale Soko
Director General, Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA)
Bopelokgale Soko is a financial sector expert with 24 years’ experience in financial sector regulation and policy development. In her role, Ms. Soko is responsible for the regulation and supervision of the pension industry in the country (i.e. the pension funds and the pension fund administrators). Prior to this, Ms. Soko worked as a Deputy Director in the Retirement Funds and Investment Institutions Department of NBFIRA, where she regulated and supervised pension funds, assets managers and securities exchanges.
Before joining NBFIRA, Ms Soko held positions of Assistant Vice President at Bourse Africa Limited (Commodities and Derivative Exchange), Head of Listing Department at the Botswana Stock Exchange and the Bank analysist at the Bank of Botswana. Ms Soko holds an MBA from the University of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa and the Bcom. Degree from the University of Botswana.
Dr Mbako Mbo
Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer: First National Bank of Botswana
Mbako completed his PhD in Business Management and Administration with the University of Stellenbosch in 2017, adding to his MBA and Professional Accountancy Qualifications. He is a business leader with work experience spanning over 20 years across various industries including Telecommunications, Electricity, Development finance and Commercial Banking. Mbako has spent the last 14 years in the financial services field working across various geographies in Africa and Asia, and has served in Corporate Boards of Directors for private entities as well as on Governing and Advisory Boards for non-Profit entities.
