Social Impact

Stellenbosch Business School’s ultimate purpose is to develop leaders and managers who will be stewards of society, irrespective of the organisation for which they work. For us, social impact means:

  • The societal orientation and impact of its curricula and research
  • Its involvement in social dialogue and public policy making
  • The social impact of its engagement with stakeholders
  • Its collaboration with partner schools and organisations
  • Its sustainability and responsibility practices as an institution
  • One of the key social engagement initiatives is its Small Business Academy, which offers a nine-month business development programme to small business owners from low-income communities in the Western and Eastern Cape. Students also play a role in social impact through engaged learning programmes that see them interacting with community members. For example, students might assist small business owners from a low-income area with their business plans.
