BLENDED LEARNING AT STELLENBOSCH BUSINESS SCHOOL

Experience the same immersive classroom learning from anywhere in the world

Blended learning: Attend class from anywhere in the world

The blended learning format allows you to join the class in real time in one of two ways: online or on campus. The online classes are delivered synchronously with the on-campus classes.

Our high-tech classrooms enable you to immerse yourself in a premium learning experience using an internet-linked laptop from wherever you are in the world. We have been investing in this technology since 2015, and our lecturers are trained in the art of virtual teaching and facilitation. In short, we combine technology with a strong human touch.

This virtual environment enables you to actively participate in classroom discussions – whether you are logging in from an airport in Paris, a boardroom in Lagos, or your office at home.

Use the flexibility of blended learning to your advantage

Study while you work

Blended learning classes are usually presented in late afternoon slots once a week. This requires minimum time away from work.

Study with us from wherever you are

Blended learning lets you attend class digitally via an internet-linked laptop. This means access to our programmes even if you live further afield.

Save time and money

Digital class attendance means a lower opportunity cost to do a programme with us as it reduces travel and accommodation costs.

Apply your learning immediately

You can start applying your newly acquired skills right from the start.

The online class format gives shy students the courage to voice their opinions, and increases the richness of the views and inputs expressed.

More about our blended learning

At Stellenbosch Business School, we understand the importance of human connection. That is why we combine technology with a strong human touch. We have been investing in this technology since 2015, and our lecturers are trained in the art of virtual teaching and facilitation.

Some of our programmes presented in blended learning format allows students to attend class digitally or to be physically present in class. These programmes are the MBA, MPhil Development Finance, and the PGDips in Business Management and Administration, Development Finance, Futures Studies and Project Management. Where a programme allows for both online and on-campus attendance, the classes are delivered synchronously – no ‘canned classes’ to watch later. Some of our MPhil programmes and a number of other PGDips presented in blended learning format only allows for digital class attendance.

Remote learning is proven to work best when you meet your lecturers and classmates in person first. That is why most programmes start with an on-campus block followed by regular blended learning classes, usually once a week from 16:00 to 20:00 (this may differ per programme). Some programmes have another on-campus block towards the end to ensure an integrative experience. You will find the dates and timeslots under PROGRAMMES on this website.

During class, lecturers can talk directly to each student, and students can interact with the lecturer as well as each other. Time to break away into groups? No problem. The students physically present in the class can have their group discussions in one of our state-of-the-art breakaway rooms while online attendees can have their group meetings in the virtual chat.

  • Classes are discussion-based to support collaborative learning. Students can break away into smaller groups (online or in physical break-away rooms), and reconvene to share take-outs and insights.
  • Communication takes place via voice, messages, chats and polls. Content such as screenshots, games and videos can be shared.
  • Classes can be facilitated by faculty members and by industry experts from around the world.

Technology

The technology we use is secure, stable, sophisticated and yet user-friendly. We will help you familiarise yourself with the technology before the start of the classes.

Teaching

Our lecturers have been trained to deliver a virtual learning experience that is world class, interactive, and engaging.

Learning support

Your learning journey is strongly supported by an online learning management system.

Designed by people, for people

At Stellenbosch Business School, we understand the importance of human connection. That’s why our classes have been expertly designed for a life-like multimedia learning experience. In the physical classroom, lecturers and students can see each other, with all remote students’ faces on screen and/or on the classroom wall. Lecturers can talk directly to each student, and students can interact with both the lecturer and each other.
