As from 2024, student membership of the Project Management Institute (PMI) is included for our School’s MBA stream in Project Management.

As from 2024, student membership of the US-based Project Management Institute (PMI) is included for students enrolling for Stellenbosch Business School’s MBA stream in Project Management. Serving more than 2.9 million professionals, PMI is the world’s leading organisation for the project management profession.

The business school and Project Management Institute: South Africa Chapter have signed a memorandum of understanding that holds various benefits for the school’s Project Management students. Realising the value of PMI’s resources, the business school decided to carry the costs for Student Club membership for all its MBA Project Management students. As Student Club members, students can network, find mentors, access career opportunities, learn from peers, and work together to drive greater impact.

Project management is universally accepted as a scarce skill. Moreover, companies are seeking a new generation of managers that can effectively respond to business challenges to help ensure successful outcomes. Membership of PMI is a significant value-add for our students as this will expose them to an authoritative and global body of knowledge on project management.

Mothibi Thabeng, Vice-President of Academic Outreach: PMI South Africa Chapter, says Student Club membership includes supporting students with their research (in the form of advice from practitioners and access to the Chapter’s member database when sending out data-gathering surveys), mentoring students, collaborating in the Chapter’s social impact programme, and helping registered Project Management Professionals or others obtain Professional Development Units.

Says Mr MC Botha, Head: Postgraduate Diploma Project Management at Stellenbosch Business School, “A career head start awaits those students who embrace this opportunity created by our MOU with PMI’s South Africa Chapter. Student Club membership gives our students access to PMI’s vast knowledge resources, virtual events, networking opportunities, career development platform, upskilling courses, and certifications. Our students can even apply for PMI research grants and scholarships.”
